LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
"SHOT SHOW" Jan 19 thru 22
We enjoyed the show so much we had
to go back a 2nd day to see the remain-
der of the booths. This show is closed to
the general public. Booth displays by
manufactures and suppliers only. Those
browsing, retailers in the Outdoor re-
lated businesses.
There was a huge presence of weapons
for both personal use, as well as tactical/
police/military.
The Las Vegas "Sands Expo" Center
hosted the event. The displays for the
most part were quite elaborate set ups.
Our vote went to the Remington gun
booth. More on the order of a 2 story
store covering hundreds of square feet,
all set up in the Expo center. The Nikon
booth shown in the image was on the
same order.
We browsed through ammo, weapons,
50 cal machine gun displays, and believe
it or not we even saw an RPG Rifle.
Body armor, knives, multi-tools, cloth-
ing, boots, dry bags, camping gear, and
much more. Then there was the SUV
with a roof mount rotary machine gun.
Truly an amazing event. We were
blown away at the scope of the whole
event. This show is definitely on the
calendar as a "must see" for next year!
TOPOGEAR ROAD TRIP
LAS VEGAS TO SACRAMENTO
Jan 21 thru 23
We hit the road headed to Sacramento for
the ISE "SPORTSMAN SHOW". About a
600 mile trip. Our first leg north out of
Vegas to Reno Nevada. We ran through
light rain and snow most of the way until
we neared Reno.
It was late afternoon when we arrived in
Reno. We heard that our route to Sacra-
mento via I80 over Donner Pass was shut
down due to heavy snow and accidents.
We had come prepared to put tire chains
on but not for a road closure.
We holed up at the Eldorado Casino in
Reno. With a pleasant evening and restful
sleep, we were up early. The road had
been opened around 3am. We were on the
road before daylight.
As we headed west and up the grade to
Donner Pass we hit a mandatory chain
requirement and checkpoint. We pulled
over and installed our chains. Glad the
forethought was there to be prepared.
The next 50 miles proved to be slow.
With a quick stop in the town of Truckee
for a coffee, the 50 miles took about 4
hours. It was slow going and a couple
stops to adjust the chains.
We eventually made it over the pass, and
pulled off the chains.

"SPORTSMAN SHOW" Jan 21 Thru 24
We arrived at the show Friday morning.
The day would prove to be a rainy one and
the temperature in the 40's.
We found the turn-out seemed heavy for
such crummy weather. There were large
buildings with booth set ups. Walking be-
tween them meant getting wet, but no one
seemed to notice or complain.
In fact the food court was outside in the
cold damp weather. Being the outdoor peo-
ple that they are, you found them sitting
around under a protected overhang, with
coats on. Sitting there eating their lunch, or
sipping a hot coffee.
I'm sure some just as comfortable as sit-
ting in a duck blind, or tree stand. A little
cold rain certainly doesn't keep this type of
person from enjoying the day!
We browsed numerous Guide Service
booths, those with fishing tackle, ATV's,
trailers, boats, knives and some limited
camping gear. There were lure casting
demos into the live tanks with some really
large bass.
We sampled jerky, walked the buildings,
floors, the hundreds of booths, saw demos
of new items, and had a great BBQ sand-
wich for lunch.
What a great way to spend a day in Janu-
ary. Don't miss the February Phoenix
Show.
