TOPOGEAR NEWS
MICROSOFT
TOPOGEAR's Jerky source has been
selected. We are happy to announce we will
be carrying
Golden Valley Natural
Jerky
products.
We had specific requirements to even be
considered, before we selected the product.
We wanted products that were processed
without the addition of MSG. The more
natural, the better!
Golden Valley Natural offers two product
lines. The first is labeled NATURAL.
The second labeled ORGANIC.
Both products passed the freshness and
taste test with flying colors. So well, I re-
sponded back to Golden Valley Natural that
I obviously have been eating bad jerky all
my life. At least up until this point! These
products are fantastic in taste as well as
freshness, and tenderness.
These products will initially be offered by
special order only. By the case (24 pack-
ets), per individual product. We will pur-
chase as ordered so your product is always
fresh. Email us for special pricing and or-
dering instructions.
sales@topogear.com
We are beginning to list individual packets
on the website, but at this time they are not
available in less than a (24 Pack). What is
shown by packet is discounted off MSRP.
Buying by the cases enables us to offer you
even greater savings than even shown.
The 2nd annual Springtime Bazaar
will be held at the Casablanca in Mesquite,
Nevada.
If you can't decide what to do Saturday
April 17th, come out and join the fun. If
you were planning on something else, can-
cel and come to Mesquite instead! Admis-
sion is inexpensive, and 50% of the pro-
ceeds benefit the National Multiple Sclero-
sis Society.
Last year there were over 1200 people
browsing through the 85 + booths. Lets
help make this turnout even greater! It's for
a good cause. There will be crafts, jewelry,
sporting goods, clothing, & food. TOPO-
GEAR is planning on having a booth. See
us there.

letter for more detail. Contact

The Adirondack
Reservations had to be secured through
the Havasupai Tribe. Reservations for
the year came available Feb 2. We
spent 3 days dialing the phone, over and
over, to get through. Eventually on day
three we were answered. We were
really excited to get our first choice.
For your information, should you care
to secure your own reservations, contact
numbers are listing on the below web-
site. No email, nor is any automated
web site available for reservations.
http://www.havasupaitribe.com/
The Havasupai are a Native American
tribe that has called the Grand Canyon
its home for at least 800 years. They
once laid claim to land the size of Dela-
ware. In 1882 the tribe was forced by
the federal government to abandon all
but a little over 500 acres of land.
Over the next century the tribe used the
legal system to fight for restoration of
their land. In 1975 after many years of
battling for their rights, the tribe suc-
ceeded in regaining 251,000 acres of
their ancestor's land.
As a means of surviving and flourish-
ing in today's economy the tribe has
turned its land into a tourist destination
that attracts thousands of people every
year.

For those in the eastern Ohio, western Pennsyl-
vania area you may be familiar with these shelters.
Search out the Gerard Hiking Trail in Oil Creek
State Park. You will find yourself in the Oil
Creek Valley Area. Of notable importance, this is
the site of early commercial oil history (1859).
For the less adventurous seek out the many mu-
seums the area has to offer. Hike through the past,
and let your curiosity run wild in a different way.
For those seeking the outdoor adventure grab your
pack and trekking poles, then hit the trail. Oil
Creek Park encompasses over 7,000 acres of
woods, streams and hills.
The Gerard Hiking Trial is a 36 mile loop that is
located within Oil Creek State Park. This Park is
just north of Oil City Pennsylvania.
The trail loop runs down the east and west sides
of Oil Creek Valley. With four connecting trails,
hikers can opt for different length outings. The
trails are clearly marked. The Main Trail marked
with Yellow Blazes. The connecting trails marked
with White Blazes.
There are waterfalls, old historic sites, and
scenic views that over look Oil Creek Gorge.
The trails are well maintained. Ascents and
descents in the trail tend to range from 100 to
300 feet.
Adirondack-type shelters are open year round
for overnight backpackers. Shelter areas are
located at Wolfkiel Run on the west side of
the valley and Cow Run on the east. Each
area has six shelters (each accommodates 3 to
4 people), tent areas, plus restrooms and
firewood. (Bring your own kindling). Water
is supplied on a seasonal basis--please check
when you register. Fires are allowed ONLY
in the central fire ring and shelter fireplaces.
Camp stoves are allowed.
Reservations must be made to use the shel-
ters and tent areas. Call the Oil Creek State
Park Office at (814) 676-5915. You will be
asked, Name, Address, Tel#, Description of
vehicle and license number, number in party,
parking area, direction of travel and date
requested. Please make checks payable to
the COMMONWEALTH OF PA.
You may stay in the shelters one night, The
shelters were designed to allow longer hiking
trips, not extended camping.

Las Vegas Dutch Oven Society Gathering
Valley of Fire, Nevada April 12-14
For a couple of us this was a plan gone bad.
We took off Friday night after work and
made it to Valley of Fire in the dark to find
both camping areas full. The State park in-
stalled power at the campgrounds. What was
once not so popular, was now packed with
land yachts. Unfortunately single site reser-
vations are not available. With no place to
set up camp we headed back 75 miles to Las
Vegas.
We took a chance on trying the camp
grounds just outside the Red Rock Canyon
area. Though around 9pm by this time we
found a vacant site and made the best of a
bad situation. We missed out on the Dutch
Oven Gathering but enjoyed the morning
sunrise!
